What is the difference between a Recreation membership and a Marathon membership?
The Recreation Division is designed for paddlers who want to get out on the water, have fun, and meet fellow paddlers. Recreation boats are what most people think of first when they hear the words "canoe" or "kayak." The Recreation Division offers trips and courses but does not involve any competitions.
The Marathon Division has something for everyone and is a fantastic way to keep fit and refine your paddling skills! We mostly paddle racing shells (pro-boats) which are sleek, efficient, and tippy. Marathon members are a small but diverse group - we have people who come purely for the fitness and community, and those who are training for international events.
You can join one division or both!
Can I reserve a specific boat to paddle at a certain time?
Generally, no. Aside from club-sanctioned trips, clinics/courses, and races (all of which receive priority selection of equipment), boat and equipment availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.
How do I sign-up to attend a club trip?
All information and sign-up forms for trips will be posted on our website in the “Upcoming Trips” section. To attend a specific trip, please fill out the sign-up form prior to the trip. Please keep in mind that some of our trips fill up quickly, so if you are interested in one you should sign up early.
How can I lead a club trip?
If you want to lead a trip, you will need to fill out the Trip Proposal form as soon as possible, but at least 2 weeks before a day trip and 3 weeks prior to an overnight trip. If it is your first trip you will need to attend a short training session. Click here for more information on how an event qualifies for a club trip.
How much does it cost to attend a day trip from Fred Heal?
Day trips from the Fred Heal Canoe Launch to the boathouse are free, and as with all SCC trips, are only open to SCC members. Please ensure you fill out the sign-up form prior to the trip. See the “Upcoming Trips” section of our website for details.
How can I become a volunteer with the SCC?
There are always volunteer opportunities to help the Saskatoon Canoe Club carry out its various activities throughout the year. All that is required is an interest and some time to spare. We are always accommodating to new people with different backgrounds, skills, and ideas. We are looking for people who want to share their skills and want to help to keep the club vibrant and changing with the times. If you are interested in volunteering, please email president@saskatooncanoeclub.org
